KARPOV BACK IN BAGUIO CONVENTION CENTER AFTER 45 YEARS

Chess Grandmaster Anatoly Karpov returns to the Baguio Convention Center today, Feb. 1, 2023 after 45 years. BCC was built purposely to host the historic 1978 World Chess Championship played between champion Karpov and challenger Viktor Korchnoi. Karpov was received by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and members of the local chess clubs. He was in the city for an engagement with the local chess players and to promote a film documentary on the historic chess match entitled “Champion of the World” which had a free screening at the venue.

He was also with Sergey Cheremin (Moscow Government Minister, head of the Department of external economic and international relations of Moscow), Marat Pavlov ( Ambassador of the Russian Federation), Konstanine Belyaev (Representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation), Viacheslav Manuylov (Deputy Head of the Department of external economic and international relations of Moscow), and Sergey Bondarenko (Head of the Subdivision for cultural programs of the Department of external economic and international relations of Moscow) – APR, NCO, JM
