La Trinidad gears for Tourism Week, Sept. 24-29

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – This capital town known in the country as the “Strawberry Capital” will hold a Tourism Week set from September 24 to 27.
Mayor Romeo Salda said the event with its theme “Tourism and the Digital Transformation” is also in celebration of the World Tourism Day 2018.
“The event aimed at boosting tourism efforts of both the local government and the communities,” Salda said.
Councilor Roderick Awingan, chairman of the Committee on Tourism said, among the activities lined-up  in the four-day event are arts, photo and local product  exhibits; digital poster competition; product development and business, marketing seminar, tourism conference environmental forum and  farm tours.
Orlando Pacya, the town’s Cooperative Development Officer, pointed out the event will also showcase locally produced products such as strawberry jam and wine and also organically grown products.
“The participation of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in the event,” said Pacya. He pointed out, years, MSMEs largely been sharing a big portion of the economic growth of municipality.
The event, in coordination with Department of Industry (DTI)-Cordillera, will also serve as a platform for local producers to learn current trends in product standards, packaging, marketing and promotions.
A musical concert will also be staged featuring local artists.
The awarding of tourism oriented barangays and business establishments will highlight the event. Among the standards for selection are the presence of at least one tourist attraction in the barangay, presence of a Barangay Tourism Council (BTC), digital presence–social media page in promoting areas of interests and presence of community guides, among others.
Valdred Olsim, the municipal tourism officer also said, the activity will also be highlighted with the staging of a unique sports event dubbed as “Eco-Kulturamazing Race.”
