La Trinidad LGU resumes operation after 1 week lockdown

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, June 26(PIA) – The municipal government has resumed operation effective June 25 after a week-long suspension to allow intensive contact tracing and disinfection activities.
Mayor Romeo Salda imposed the lockdown at the municipal hall and other areas around the municipality last June 18 after four frontliners tested positive for the COVID- 19. The three police officers of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station and a municipal health worker assigned at the operation center at the municipal hall tested positive during the conduct of the expanded mass testing for frontline workers in the region.
During the lockdown, the municipal health office conducted swab testing to the LGU employees while disinfection activities were regularly done in the different offices and facilities. “All the swab test conducted to 277 frontline employees of the La Trinidad municipality yielded negative results,” Salda said in an interview on Thursday.
Per advice of the municipal health office, the operation of the LGU was allowed to resume with some of the offices on a skeletal scheme, the mayor informed. Aside from its regular office transactions, the LGU during this community quarantine is catering to more than 150 clients daily applying for travel passes for those travelling outside the municipality, locally stranded individuals and returning overseas Filipinos.
Meanwhile, Salda joined Governor Melchor Diclas and Benguet General Hospital Chief Dr. Meliarazon Dulay in sending off the 11 newly recovered COVID-19 patients including a police officer from La Trinidad on Thursday.
“We thank the Lord for the recovery of one of our frontliners, a police officer who tested positive for the COVID-19 while performing his duty,” he said.
As of June 26, La Trinidad has 16 COVID-19 cases with 10 recoveries and six active cases currently admitted at the Benguet General Hospital and the Santo Nino Hospital in Baguio City.
