Highlights handing down honor, Patriotism to younger generations

In honor of all fallen and living veterans, the Province of La Union celebrated #ArawNgKagitingan2023 and #PhilippineVeteransWeek highlighting the need to hand down patriotism to the younger generations through an honor and wreath laying ceremony at USAFIP-NL Military Shrine, Darigayos, Luna, La Union today, April 10, 2023. “Rafy” Ortega-David cited lines from the Philippine National Anthem, “…Duyan ka ng magiting, Sa manlulupig ‘Di ka pasisiil…This is a significant time for all of us to recognize and express gratitude to our fallen heroes and living veterans.

But more importantly, to reflect on our individual roles to protect our land’s independence and sovereignty in our own little way.” Her message was delivered by La Union Provincial Tourism Officer (LUPTO) Arthur Cortez, Jr. as the LUPTO-Culture and the Arts Unit provided event assistance to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office-La Union, Local Government Unit of Luna, and Philippine National Police – La Union Police Provincial Office (PNPLUPPO).

Also in attendance in the event were PNP-LUPPO PCOL Lambert Suerte; Luna Municipal Mayor Gary Pinzon; Mr. Denver Badua representing Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega; Ms. Maribelle Abuan of the Philippine Veterans Bank; more than 20 Veterans and Veteran Post Presidents; Philippine Coast Guard; Bureau of Fire Protection; Boys and Girls Scouts of the Philippines; Teachers; Barangay Officials; and other guests.

With the event’s theme, “Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Pundasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino,” it underscores the need to come together in upholding freedom and sovereignty reflective of
#LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan that is essential in attaining all aspirations including the vision for La Union to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025. Annually, the Araw ng Kagitingan is officially celebrated on April 9 but was moved to April 10 this year by virtue of Proclamation No. 90, s. 2022.
