Lepanto Nat’l High School opens new classroom building

MANKAYAN, Benguet, Oct 23, (PIA) – A newly constructed school building was turned over to the Lepanto National High School (LNHS) in this municipality. Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong with Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company Communications Head Butch Mendizabal and LNHS Principal Sharon Angupa led the ribbon cutting and inauguration of the one-story three classroom school building in Mankayan.
This replaces the school building which was razed down in a fire incident in August last year.
In his message, Ayong, an LNHS alumna, underscored the importance of partnership between stakeholders that played a big role in the completion of the project.
“From day one, we saw the small-scale miners entering a large-scale mining company to join our Mankayan BFP and PNP and other community members in the clearing operation. You can see here the collective efforts that have continued throughout the entire duration of our restoration project, and we are truly grateful to all our stakeholders,” Ayong said.
Ayong appealed to the different stakeholders to help rebuild the burned school building which housed at least three sections of the Grade 7 of the LNHS who were left with no classroom after the fire incident. Thankfully, many reached out and offered to help in rebuilding the school.
For his part, Mendizabal said rebuilding the school is a way to help its host community ensure the education of the affected school children.
“Part of the Company’s social development management program and corporate social responsibility initiatives is upholding quality education. The pandemic may have affected our operations, but we continue to find ways to deliver on our commitment in helping our community, particularly in terms of providing quality education to our community children,” Mendizabal said.
Lepanto Mining Company spent over one million pesos for the reconstruction of the building.
