Martin defends WBA – Asia belt in Battle of Manila vs Tondo

Ifugao pride Carl James Martin defends his World Boxing Association – Asia super bantamweight belt against Charles Tondo at the SM City San Lazaro Cinema 6 on July 30 in Manila.
The 5 PM match will see the Wonder Boy fight under Probellum Promotions for the second time as he prepares for bigger fights abroad anytime soon.
It will be the first title defense for the 23-year-old who remains unbeaten in 19 fights, 16 of which came via knockout and against Tondo. Tondo, of Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania carries a 12-5 win-loss card record, two of his wins came via KO. He last fought last March 19 against Dennis McCann (11-0-0) where he lost via unanimous decision, his second setback after losing to Tommy Frank (14-2-0) on December 17 of last year.
The 12-rounder fight that headlines the aptly titled Battle of Manila that features six undercards. In his win against Ronnie Baldonado last March, Martin suffered his first knockdown with the latter scoring it in the second round of their 12-round fight. But Martin fought back and scored an 11th-round stoppage to retain his Philippine super bantamweight belt while adding the WBA – Asia strap.
Referee Nowell Haduca had to stop the fight in the 11th round when Baldonado was unable to return the onslaught of the Hingyon, Ifugao native. The fight was officially stopped with 2:02 left on the 11th.
On his Facebook page, Martin said: “Falling but the important thing is to get up and finish the fight.” The win could secure Martin an international fight under Probellum Promotions.
Probellum in a post said, “Confirmed Carl Jammes Martin is the newest Filipino Fighter to be signed by Probellum Promotions.”
