Local vendors in this town claimed that meat products sold in the market are safe for consumption. Jerome Agalatiw, a vendor of Km. 5 public market, said a sanitary certificates were issued to them, and meat products being sold are free from African Swine Fever (ASF). On work environment, Agalatiw said the meat section is well maintained and organized. The local vendor said that their business operation were affected when the ASF disease struck.
But when government agencies declared ASF free, his sales of meat products have improved. “Kahit tig-isa lang basta maubos, Kasi noon bago nagkaroon ng ASF outbreak, dalawa ang kinakatay,” Agalatiw said. “Sakto lang din ang kinikita, pambayad ng upa at pangkain sa pamilya”, Agalatiw said. Local vendors expressed discomfort to suppliers, hoping middlemen won’t take advantage in increasing the price.
