Mga estudyante kinuhang tourist aides sa Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY – Bilang paghahanda ng probinsiya ng Ilocos Norte sa pagdating ng mga turista, nasa 70 estudyante ang kinuha bilang mga tourist aide sa ilalim ng Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) upang tumulong na masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga turista sa gitna ng pandemya ng coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“This program is jointly conducted by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Public Employment and Service Office (PESO), meant to generate local employment and give opportunities for students to earn while they learn,” pahayag ni Xavier Ruiz, operations officer of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO), noong Huwebes.
Para sa grupong ito, magbibigay ang mga estudyante ng karagdagang tulong sa local government units sa pagbubukas ng industriya ng turismo.
Nauna dito, kumukuha ang INTO ng daan-daang tourist aides kabilang ang mga senior citizen at out-of-school youth subalit ibinaba ito sa 70 na lamang ngayong taon dahil sa pandemya.
Bago ang pagtatalaga sa mga estudyante, kailangang sumailalim ang bawat isa sa kanila sa isang orientation seminar upang isulong ang uri ng hospitalidad ng mga Ilocano, gayundin upang masiguro na sinusunod ang minimum health and safety protocols. Bahagi ng orientation ay ang pagsasanay sa kanila kung paano ang tamang pakikitungo sa mga turista at tulungan na maging makabuluhan at memorable.
Ang Ilocos Norte ang unang probinsiya sa bansa na nagawaran ng World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travels Stamp para sa paggamit ng kinikilala sa buong mundo na health at safety protocols sa panahon ng pandemya sa Covid-19.
Ang WTTC Safe Travels Stamp ay ang kauna-unahang safety and hygiene earmark sa buong mundo na ibinibigay sa mga institusyon ng turismo at industriya na tumutulong sa mga traveler sa pagkilala sa mga gobyerno at negosyo na nagpapatupad ng global health standardized guidelines.
“Ilocos Norte is one of the first destinations in the Philippines to reopen for tourism. The province was also part of the pioneer Ridge and Reef Tourism Corridor among Region I provinces and Baguio City.
They have recognized the presence of safety nets for stakeholders in the industry, specifically the establishment of a tourists’ triage, the regular conduct of hotel inspections, and our pioneering effort to prioritize tourism workers in our vaccine rollout,” ani Ruiz na sinabing karamihan sa mga manggagawa sa turismo sa probinsiya ay lubos nang bakunado ngayon.
Bago ang pandemya ay nakakaakit ang Ilocos Norte ng milyon-milyon na turista taon-taon, lalo sa panahon ng summer at kapaskuhan.
