NIA-CAR completes 160 irrigation projects CY 2020; 24 CY 2021

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: The National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera (NIA-CAR) has reported that it completed 160 irrigation projects out of the 168 programmed for CY 2020 while initial 24 from the 122 lined up for this year.
Based on the Summary Status of Project Implementation (SSPI) report by Supervising Engineer Sammy Kimbungan to NIA-CAR Regional Manager Engr. Benito Espique, Jr., as of August 15 (2021), some 13,472 farmers were benefitted in 2020 while an initial of 3,320 (2021) for a total of 16,792.
And the total jobs generated posted at 7,406 including the 4,504 in CY2020. For CY 2020, some 949 hectares (has.)were developed into new areas while 859 has. were restored for a total of 1,808 has.
Completed irrigation projects as per fund include the following—Estabishment of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (EGPIP); Repair of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (RGPIS); Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program (BSPP); Extension/Expansion of Existing Communal Irrigation System (EEECIS); Small Irrigation Project (SIP); Restore/Repair/Rehabilitation of Existing Communal Irrigation System (RRRCIS), among others.
As of Aug. 15,the agency has already received an allocation of P1.343-billion for CY 2020. Summary of completed irrigation projects per province: Abra 24, Apayao 16, Benguet 24, Ifugao 30, Kalinga 42, and Mt Province 24. Monitored projects include Lower Apayao River Irrigation Project (LARIP) and Alfonso Lista PIP.
Other accomplishments (CY 2020) include restoration of irrigation canal lining (93.86 kms.) and pipeline (111.18 kms).
Meanwhile, for CY 2021, initial list of completed irrigation projects per province —Abra 4, Apayao 4, Benguet 3, Ifugao 3, Kalinga 5, and Mt. Province 5. For this year, the agency has been allocated P1.009-Billion.
