Teachers play a vital role in molding and shaping the learners and they are considered as their second parents. But what if the teacher faces pressures in their everyday teaching? Stress? frustrations from their boss and colleagues? additional loads? And other reports? Because of these everyday encounters and everyday negative emotions, addressing the mental health of teachers are essential for both educators and the learners. Teachers that are
mentally healthy are more likely to be effective and satisfied with their jobs which has a positive impact to the learners as well.
To support the mental health of teachers, they should have counseling services, encouraging teachers to set boundaries around working hours and make time for self care. Training on managing stress and emotional resilience can also help teachers overcome negative emotions. It is also nice if teacher are allowed to voice out their concerns about their mental health without fear of judgement.
In terms of their workplace, teachers can also manage their mental health if it has an atmosphere of respect, collaboration and positive relationships between teachers, learners and administration, ensuring teachers to feel safe and valued in their work environment as well. By taking these steps, schools can create a sustainable and compassionate environment that may prioritize the mental health of teachers and that can benefit the learners and also the attitude of teachers towards their work and colleagues.
