The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Cordillera Regional Welfare Office (OWWA – CAR)
celebrated Migrant Workers Day 2023 with over 300 Baguio Benguet Overseas Filipino Workers and their families in a day of fun and services at the PVFR Gym here in June 9. With the theme, “OFWs: Saan mang Panig ng Mundo, Galing at Katatagan mo’y Hinahangaan”, the celebration was highlighted by the “OFWs Got Talent” wherein OFW organizations, family circles and OWWA scholars engaged in a dance/performance contest.
The OWWA – CAR and its partner agencies and private organizations and institutions also provided free health and wellness services, government one – stop – shop booths. The OWWA – CAR headed by OIC Regional Director Luzviminda Tumaliuan also awarded program beneficiaries with livelihood, welfare and scholarship cheques. There were also games and raffles.
Tumaliuan outlined that the annual celebration of Migrant Workers Day is in recognition of the sacrifices of OFWs in working overseas to give a better future for their families while contributing to the economy of the country. “Ang araw na ito ay ginaganap simula isinabatas ang Republic Act 8042 noong June 7, 1995.
Taun – taon ay ginaganap ang pagpupugay na ito sa ating mga OFWs dahil sa kanilang sakripisyo na magtrabaho sa ibayong dagat para maibangon ang kanilang mga pamilya”; “Taon – taon ay binibigyan natin ng pagpupugay ang mga OFWs dahil hindi lamang sa naibibigay nilang benepisyo sa kanilang mga pamilya ngunit dahil napakalaki po ng nai – ambag nila sa ating ekonomiya”; “Kaya kami sa OWWA, sampu ng aming mga kasamahan, and through our Administrator “Arnaldo Arnell” Ignacio, saludo kami sa inyong lahat,” she said.
Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Foreign Affairs and the local
government units of Baguio City and Benguet, who gave their inspirational messages. Tumaliuan also administered the oath of the new set of officers of the Baguio Benguet Federation of Overseas Filipino Workers during the program.
