P2.5M tulong sa urban farmers

Ang urban farming sa Baguio ay nakakuha ng P2.5milyon na pondong tulong mula sa Department of Agriculture-CAR, para sa mga gawaing pang-agrikultura habang hinihintay ang pagsusumite ng mga kaukulang dokumento.
Ito ay inanunsiyo sa ginanap na first quarter meeting ng City Agriculture and Fisheries Council (CAFC) sa pangangasiwa ng City Agriculturist Alberto Tomas and DA-CAR staff na pinangunahan ni Karen Ganga sa City Veterinary Office, Slaughter Compound.
Ang mga financial plans lamang mula sa urban gardeners ang isinumite, na may mga panukala sa proyekto upang makumpleto ang mga kinakailangan para sa pinansiyal na tulong.
Kasama sa financial assistance ay ang agricultural activities na nakatakda ngayong taon; inventory ng coffee at flower growers, best practices at out-of-town agricultural tours, at information at technology trainings para sa barangay urban gardeners.
Ayon kay Tomas, muling binuhay ang 4H clubs at Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs) sa  mga paaralan at barangays; ang vegetable-producing seeds at coffee seedlings ay inihahanda upang magamit, sa pakikipagtulungan ng DA-CAR, Bureau of Plant Industry, Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. bilang chair ng Market, Trade and Commerce; at Agriculture committee, at iba pang ahensiya ng gobyerno.
Ang mga organic practices para sa backyard pot, container, rooftop, vertical at hanging gardens ay hinihikayat ngayon sa lungsod at karatig-lugar, para sa self-sustenance at sapat na pagkain, ani Tomas. Ang mga livelihood sa pamamagitan ng tea making at food preservation programs ay sikat na rin, dagdag niya.
Dagdag pa niya, ang provision ng city flowers para sa Panagbenga 2019 ay dagdag na hamon, hayag ni Tomas. Pinag-iisipan din ang mga potted strawberries sa mga sambahayan, na maaaring makilala bilang produkto ng Baguio.
Tinulungan ng CAFC ang DA, sa partisipasyon ng local government unit sa implementasyon at monitoring ng self-sustenance at food security programs sa pamamagitan ng mga sectoral group para sa poulty, livestock, fisheries, fruits at vegetables, commercial crops, staples, international trade at climate change groups.
