P2.6M CANNABIS SMUGGLING TRY FOILED IN KALINGA

Tinglayan, KalingaPolicemen foiled a P2.6M marijuana smuggling effort of a local farmer from Tinglayan, Kalinga Thursday, a week after two drug couriers were also flagged down at a checkpoint trying to
sneak out P17.2M worth of the illegal weed also in that province. Ersilias Maccay Baccoy, 36, from Barangay Butbut Proper, Tinglayan, tried to sneak out 22 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and stalks with fruiting tops weighing more or less 22,000 grams valued at P2,640,000.00.

Policemen, said Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, were tipped off that Baccoy via a private vehicle was transporting marijuana products from Tinglayan enroute to Tabuk City, Kalinga’s
capital, prompting authorities to pitch a checkpoint at sitio Dinakan, barangay Dangoy, Lubuagan town. Baccoy was stopped at the checkpoint and policemen discovered the huge haul of cannabis.
Just last week, two supposed drug couriers from the lowlands, were caught transporting P17.2M worth of marijuana also at a checkpoint in Luabuagan town.
