P2.7MILLION MARIJUANA UPROOTED IN LA UNION

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A total of P2.7 million fully grown marijuana, seedlings and dried stalks were uprooted in a two days operation conducted by the joint operatives of policemen here and the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. Col. Lambert Suerte, La Union police director, reported Monday that 8,000 marijuana plants were uprooted in the first site of operation covering an area of 1000 square meters
located in sitio Saguingsing, Barangay Sapdaan, Santol, La Union.

Suerte said that the second operation in another site of the same area resulted to the recovery of 2000 marijuana plants, 1000 seedlings and five kilos of dried stalks. He said that most of the marijuana were destroyed in the area with proper documentation while some were brought down by the operating troops to
serve as evidence. An alleged marijuana cultivator escaped before the operation.

“The operation stemmed from information given by reliable sources that marijuana plants were being grown in the area. Immediately, we conducted the operation and coordinated with barangay officials headed by Chairman Paciano Libuten,” Suerte said.
