P480K MJ Brick Shipment Foiled In Kalinga Capital

BAGUIO CITY (September 8, 2020) – Authorities foiled a supposed P480,000 marijuana brick shipment in Tabuk City, Kalinga Monday evening after discovering the cargo concealed as ground coffee should reach the illicit lowland market via a private cargo forwarding firm.

Tabuk City policemen discovered the MJ bricks was to be shipped by a certain Daisy Palangdao, but the cargo forwarding firm’s staff noticed the contraband when one of the wrapped MJ bricks was stripped open for inspection as part of their shipping standard operating procedure.

Sensing the discovery, Palangdao fled on foot to avoid arrest, said Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. RWin Pagkalinawan, who later was informed by investigators from the Kalinga police, that she had shipped Kalinga coffee twice to Pampanga and Metro Manila.

Kalinga police however said that Palangdao had not placed any consignee yet on her supposed shipment.

Brig. Gen. Pagkalinawan claimed MJ cultivators, particularly those in Tinglayan town, “have shifted their MJ trade strategy to directly shipping their illegal produce through various methods because buyers have refused to go directly to the sources because of unceasing successes of anti-narcotics government operations.”

The police official also attribute the MJ trade strategy shift to the telling blow of the “persona non grata” declarations of LGUs down to the barangay level against MJ and drug traders and users.
