PGLU calls for another tourist guide training

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, La Union – The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Information Office – Tourism Operations Unit in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) – Region 1 will conduct a Community Guiding Training Course on July 22 – 28, 2019 as means to have more registered and accredited tour guides in La Union, aiming to cope up with the increasing influx of tourists in the province.

The training will be conducted eight hours a day for seven days including the mock tour. Ability to speak any foreign language is an advantage for this training as well as the applicant’s familiarity of the tourism destinations and attractions in the Province of La Union.

The seminar is free of charge and inclusive of meals and snacks, training kits, ID, and certificate. As there are only limited slots for the training, only applicants who complied with the necessary requirements will be qualified to attend.

The requirements are filled out participation form, photocopy of one valid ID with signature and one 2×2 picture. DOT Senior Tourism operations officer Edilberto D. Littaua, Jr. said that La Union is in need of additional 30 to 40 accredited tourist guides as there are only less than 15 active and accredited tour guides in the entire province.

“It is not enough that an individual has passed the National Certificate II Vocational Course of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. To be able to be a certified and an accredited tour guide, one should really undergo the training conducted by the DOT,” he said.

The training is in line with Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III’s vision for La Unionto be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
