Pomp and pageantry

Yeoj Lapeña (right) and Miriam Addagan, both Grade X students of the Saint Louis High School-Philex, in Itogon town’s Brgy. Ampucao, Benguet, are crowned Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2017, in glittering ceremonies at the school’s gymnasium on Tuesday night, Nov. 14, following an elaborate and colorful parade held in the morning to kick off SLHS-Philex’s annual sports competition among its students. Lapeña, who belongs to the Blue Team, and Addagan (Green Team) each bested seven other candidates to emerge as winners in a beauty pageant showcasing the students’ talents as well as poise in athletic wear and international costume, and their witticism in the Q&A portion. The school’s 683 students in Grades VII to X had been mixed and grouped into four teams: Green, Yellow, Blue, and Red for the one-week Intramurals 2017, which will be followed by a literary contest on Nov. 29. The first runners-up are James Euclid Frias (Green) and Irene Kate Bagbagen (Red) while the second runners-up are Mark Gideon Galonan (Green) and Camille Ivy Fabiculanan (Red). The third runners-up are Ismael Sabelo (Red) and Bernice Gilliana Banawan (Yellow). Except Bagbagen, who is in Grade IX, all contestants are in Grade X. The Blue and the Yellow Teams, meanwhile, are adjudged champions in the Cheer-Dance and Cheering Competitions, respectively, held in the morning following the parade. The Red Team, on the other hand, won the Street Performance Competition during the parade around the mine camp of Padcal, the gold-and-copper operations of Philex Mining, which subsidizes the SLHS-Philex.
