Public warned on water meter box scam

The Baguio Water District warns the general public against a person or group of individuals who use the name of the company in collecting fees for the installation of water meter boxes.
The warning came after BWD employees were informed that a certain individual collects fees from BWD consumers in the installation of meter boxes.
It was only on March 22, 2017 when the investigating crew made inquiry from some of the customers being installed with meter boxes upon the request of a certain individual, if installation fees were being sought prior to their application and request.
During their survey, at least two of the said customers confirmed they were made to pay at least P1,500 for the installation.
BWD General Manager Engr. Salvador M. Royeca said the water utility does not tolerate such fraudulent and deceitful transactions nor allow misleading information to reach its consumers.
Royeca emphasized that no person has been authorized by BWD in collecting fees for the installation of meter boxes as the same is free of charge.
The standardization program under the AusAID project was adopted back in 1999 and was further reinforced by the District in 2013 when Royeca assumed post as general manager.
The implemented connection standardization platform requires waterlines to be installed in a stand pipe and be secured inside meter boxes to avoid theft, tampering, and for ease of monitoring and access.
The BWD management further advices people who come across any deceitful incident or have any information regarding the illegal collection and transactions to report immediately to the BWD.
In case of any doubts regarding the authenticity of any activities, the public may reach BWD’s 24-hour hotline at 442-4929 or 442-3218 or send an email at [email protected] or visit their corporate website at www.baguiowater district.gov.ph. PR(Mark Victor Pasagoy/BWD) / ABN
