Recouping losses carnival style

After operating for some time at the Children’s playground at Burnham Park Balthazar Ola of Linked-In Corporation is asking for the extension of his carnival operation after it is set to expire at the opening of classes this June.

The carnival begun its operation three months back after it was able to secure an approval from the City Council subject to conditions such as the payment of 500,000 pesos for the lease of the area, no gambling activity and a 50,000 bond to answer for whatever damages may be incurred in the area during the operation of the said carnival.

It can also be recalled that there was staunch opposition to the said carnival and was even issued a cease operation order from the city government due to safety concerns.

While we can understand that there may be truth to the claim of Mr. Ola that his corporation has yet to recoup their expenses for the operation of their carnival perhaps it would be better to simply cut his losses and begin closing down his business at the Children’s playground.

A reality check will reveal to Mr. Ola that the weather is already conspiring against him with daily afternoon showers that threaten to muddy the grounds where his rides are located and thus further increasing safety concerns.

Even if he is wrangle another approval from the City Council he will surely stand to lose more money since classes will have already begun and the number of children playing at the children’s park will definitely and steadily decrease.

The sensible advice that should be whispered to the ear of Mr. Ola is that it is time to close shop and write off his carnival operation in the city as a bad business venture. There is actually nothing to be gained anymore in the continued operation of his carnival since his potential customers will have started to troop back to their classrooms. Apart from this Mr. Ola will also avoid any untoward incidents that might arise from slick and muddy grounds which might affect the children’s rides that they have installed at the park.

If Mr. Ola really intends to pursue his carnival operation in the City of Baguio he can always return during the summer season next year when the sun might shine the whole day and the children are on vacation so that he can recoup whatever losses he has suffered this year.

If however he insists on extending the operation of his carnival for may be another two months then he might lose more in terms of his investment and in the event of an accident that might occur because of the unstable grounds where his rides are installed then he might even face a suit for damages.

We certainly hope that he is really an astute and wise businessman as he believes himself to be.
