Silahis ng Pasko has six events lined up

After a year of Silahis ng Pasko with tempered celebration due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, another somber but more family-oriented activities are slated to surely benefit those with less in life, chief organizer Fritzgerald Padilla announced this week.
For the second straight year, the month-long festivity will lack its biggest drawer, the Children’s Mardi Gras which actually opens the month-long, multi-event Christmas calendar that is now on its 47th staging.
The event for pre-school children garbed in colorful Christmas costumes that number more than 4,000 who frolic along the city’s main streets have been cancelled for the second straight year due to the pandemic and ban on mass gathering.
“I guess for a while, we will not have the children’s mardi gras,” said Padilla. But the next generation Padilla, who “inherited” the city’s oldest Christmas offering from his father, the late councilor Narciso Padilla, who died in March 2019, said that this year’s SnP will be launched on December 8 during the celebration of the Feats of the Immaculate Conception.
Padilla said that it will be held at the Shrine of Brown Madonna in Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet where a mass will be celebrated.
December 17 will be the Share a Joy where gifts will be given to the less fortunate that exemplifies what the Silahis really means, providing a ray of hope to the less fortunate.
On December 22, it will be the day for the Lucky Christmas Families will be named and be given gifts as well as cash gifts.
On December 25, the Lucky Christmas Baby will be named and where gifts and cash gift will also be given to the baby born closest to midnight of the 25th, when Jesus Christ was supposedly born.
On December 28, the top athletes of the year and top elderlies will be honored.
The Kafagway/Kordillera International Sports Luminary Awards Podium and the Tala awards will be staged to honor athletes and elderlies.
KISLAP will honor Olympians Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio as top athletes of the year.
The sixth and final event will be the Lucky New Year Baby on January 1 or the baby born nearest the end of the old and new year.
Again, the month-long event is slated in coordination with the City Social Welfare Development Office.
