Sustainable travel to the City of Pines now more accessible with SM Supermalls’ EV Charging Station
SM Supermalls is making traveling sustainably to the Summer Capital of the Philippines much more
convenient with the launch of the very first Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station in SM City Baguio.
The EV charging station in SM City Baguio will feature the Tritium EV Charger from Emicor, SM Supermalls’ EV charging partner, making it the first mall in the City of Pines to bring free charging to its customers who use electric vehicles.
The said charger can top up an average electric vehicle in just 30 minutes to an hour. The Tritum EV Charger is compatible with vehicles that are common in Europe, Australia, and South America, like the Renault Zoe, Peugeot e-208, Porsche Taycan, Volkswagen e-Golf, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq, Audi e-tron, BMW i3, Jaguar I-PACE. It is also compatible with Japanese made vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi Outlander.
The installation of an EV charging station in SM City Baguio is part of SM Supermalls’ larger thrust to care
for the environment and build more disaster resilient communities. SM has planted 600,000 trees in the
countryside. SM City Baguio also features an underground rainwater catchment tank that helps mitigate the impact of heavy rains on Baguio. The expansion of SM City Baguio further helped alleviate traffic
and pollution in the city and protected the area from the threat of erosion and landslides.
“We are committed to making the shift towards sustainable and greener transportation more accessible
to our kababayans,” SM Supermalls President Steven T. Tan said. “That’s why we are making sure that we are installing more and more EV charging stations in SM Malls around the country. Now you can travel from North to South and back again, without worrying about where you can charge your vehicle because
you can be sure that there’s an SM Mall with an EV charger near you!”
SM Supermalls, the first mall chain to establish in-mall e-Vehicle charging sites in the Philippines, has now made traveling E-anywhere more convenient because there’s a total of over 22 chargers installed in 16 malls located in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and there are more EV Charging Stations to come as more malls will install the said facility before the end of 2022. “We believe that EVs are an important step towards a more sustainable future for all of us, and we are going all in to support this shift towards a
greener transportation option for Filipinos. We hope that our customers take advantage of these EV charging stations,” Tan added.
These charging stations are a result of SM Supermalls’ partnership with the Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Trade and Industry to accelerate the government’s renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. Aside from this, the free EV charging stations further
advances the Zero Emissions agenda of SM to increase the use of renewable energy to 50% by 2022 across all of its business segments, ahead of the national goal to be 35% renewable by 2030.
The EV Charging Stations project supports The SM Green Movement toward a greener planet. To know more about SM Supermalls’ EV Charging Stations, check out this link. Visit www.smsupermalls.com and
