The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of the Province of La Union approved on final reading on September 17, 2019 the ordinance requiring all business establishments within the province to submit lists of their job openings to the provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
Hon. Jennifer C. Mosuela, principal author of the ordinance, said the legislative measure is anchored in the provision of Section 16 of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 which enjoins every local government unit to promote full employment among its residence.
She emphasized that one way of doing so is to require business establishments in La Union to submit the lists of their jobs openings to the Provincial Government of La Union through their respective Municipal or City PESOs.
Furthermore, the provincial PESO will then post or announce job openings for the information of all interested job seekers without cost to the business establishments. BM Mosuela added that the said ordinance would be of great help to the people of the province especially the grassroots sector of the community, thus will create more jobs and full employment.
