The Material Recovery Facility (MRF)/ Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility in Bakakeng Central is now operational, the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) reported. The operation of the facility purposely to receive ewastes ( waste electrical and electronic equipment) start from Monday to Fridays, 8am to 5pm.
E-waste should be gathered centrally throughout the barangays and sent to the Bakakeng Central MRF/TSD facility for appropriate treatment and disposal, according to Engr. Marivic Empizo, CEPMO Asst. Management Officer.
The facility is the first outside Manila and the third of such kind in the country, environment officials said. Furthermore, the upgrading of the facility was a grant from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, through Safe EWaste project financed by Global Environment Facility with financial contributions from PLDT and SMART. In the 128 barangays in the city, five of them have MRF, namely Lualhati, Gibraltar, Irisan, Gisad, and Bakakeng Central.
