Yap Ready To Step Down As Benguet Caretaker

La Trinidad, Benguet (October 8, 2020) — House Appropriations Committee chair Eric Go Yap expressed readiness to turn over his post if the incoming House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco replaces him as Benguet caretaker representative.

Yap, with Benguet and Baguio officials witnessed the turnover of a building, service vehicles, laptops and drones by education department Undersecretary Alain del Pascua Thursday morning at the Benguet SPED Center in barangay Wangal here.

Rep. Yap, ACT-CIS partylist representative, who was appointed by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano as Benguet caretaker congressman after Rep. Neastor Fongwan succumbed to an illness in December 2019 said he could not do anything if presumptive House Speaker Velasco so decides to replace him as Benguet caretaker congressman.

Though Yap said that Velasco vowed before Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to maintain their chairmanships in the House, the possibility that the incoming Speaker will appoint his allies to important positions remains.

But even if in the future he longer is the Benguet caretaker lawmaker, Yap promised he will continue helping Benguet and its people. Since he accepted the challenge of being Benguet caretaker representative, he added, various projects and programs needed by the Benguet people have been funded through his office.
