12 GARDENS SHOWCASE IN PANAGBENGASCAPES COMPETITION

BAGUIO CITY

Twelve garden exhibits will once again be seen at Panagbengascapes as participants in the landscaping competition and exhibition of the Panagbenga Festival 2025, which will be located at the side of the Melvin Jones Football
Ground, Burnham Park, Baguio City. The Professional open category landscaping competition is one of the traditional events of the Baguio Flower Festival, which now has the theme “Blossoms Beyond Boundaries” and was
participated by seasoned landscapers, giving gardeners the opportunity to showcase their landscaping talents.

This year ’s Panagbengascapes was participated by seven members of the Panagbenga Landscapes Society, namely Lina Tindongan, Luisa Comicho, Shierla Gay Ruben, Christine Palongyas, Ma.Luisa Pat-ogan, Aguida Dayawen and Valencia Butale, while the Wood, Rock and Flower Group was represented by Elpidio Ngohayon, Troy Cardenas,
Agustina Felimon, Aizle Debbie Palgue and Noel Buhong. The participants all have shops selling various plants at
the Orchidarium.

“We are very grateful to Panagbenga because in the more than two decades I have been participating in the competition, we have been given the opportunity to show our landscapes to the public, which serve as an attraction in the celebration and besides, we also earn money, when we do the work,” said Simplicio Sawey, Luisa Pat-ogan’s brother with entry No. 9. According to Simplicio, it was 1997 when he participated in the landscape competition
whose first venue was inside Camp John Hay and every year he has participated.

“When I first started gardening, Panagbenga made a big contribution to my profession, because I was able to participate in various landscaping seminars of the Department of Agriculture and this increased my knowledge in
landscaping.” He was also a three-time champion in the competition in 2006, 2007 and 2009, while in other years he participated in the consolation prizes. “It’s also a bit difficult to think of innovative landscapes that people will love. Even before this Panagbenga competition came along, I was already thinking about the design of the garden to be pleasing to the public,” Simplicio said. The Panagbengascapes started on February 1 and will end on March 2.
