AGOO, LA UNION – This municipality will serve its 14th Dinengdeng Festival with delicious set of activities lined up for the first week of May.
Dinengdeng is a favorite Ilocano dish composed of a stewed variety of “nateng” or vegetable, spiced with onion, ginger, tomato, and “bagoong” or fish sauce, and topped with fried galunggong.
The Dinengdeng Festival is celebrated every first week of May, marking the season of harvest for vegetable farmers.
The celebration usually lasts for five days. For this year, the schedule of events include the Grand Float parade, 3pm, on May 1 followed by Torch Relay, Lighting of the Cauldron for the official opening of the 14th Dinengdeng festival at 5pm and a neon-themed fun run at DMMMSU-SLUC grounds at 6:30pm. During the night, a Basaan sa Pistahan Beach Party will happen at San Isidro Beach front.
The second day will feature Pammadayaw ti Umili at 9am in Agoo Civic Center. A series of long table will be lined up at Cases Boulevard for the boodle fight with Agooenians and visitors with the 101 Dinengdeng Recipes as the main dish by 3pm. At night will be the annual Inter-Agency Dance Competition with the theme “Dancing through the Decades” featuring Gab Valenciano, Cacai Bautista, and Ex Batallion.
On the 3rd day, May 3, is the event that will entertain Agooenians and visitors, the coronation night of Miss Gay La Union 2018.
On May 4, activities like “Operation Bagito 2018” (a free circumcision program), Concelebrated Mass, and Mass wedding will transpire.
The final day, May 5, is the most awaited event, the coronation of the Miss Agoo 2018, a night of beauty graced by ABS-CBN stars Toni Gonzaga, Rafael Rosell, and Tony Labrusca.
The municipality of Agoo is inviting everyone to join and have fun with the Agooenians in this once in a year celebration. CHRISTIAN JASTINE V. MENDOZA, UC Intern / ABN
