16 FCA’S RECEIVE 6.1M WORTH OF MACHINERY FROM DA-CAR

To boost the rice and corn farming condition in the municipality, the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) turned over 6.1 Million worth of machinery to 16 corn and rice farmers
cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in Palitud, Paracelis, Mountain Province on October 12, 2022.
Turned over farm machinery included four (4) units of four-wheel drive tractors and 13 units of pump and engine sets. Through the appropriate usage and maintenance of the interventions, it is hoped that the economic condition of the benefiting communities will be uplifted.

The farm machinery are seen to increase production and significantly decrease the cost of labor, particularly for labor-intensive crops like rice and corn, hence, an increase in the farm income. During the turnover ceremony, DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey reiterated that the counterpart of the beneficiaries is very important in the operation and maintenance of the machinery. “Ti masapul nga aramiden tapnu saan nga masayang ti pondo ket diyay panangmentinar tayo kadagitoy nu malpas nga mausar, ta mamatiak nga ti farmers ti Mt. Province ket responsable,” he said.

[One way to keep the fund from being wasted is to ensure the maintenance of these [machinery] every after use, I believe that the farmers of Mountain Province are responsible.] Dir. Odsey further encouraged the farmers to give due importance to all projects that they receive noting that opportunities only come once. Further, Engr. Filemon Salvador, Regional Agricultural Engineering Division Chief, emphasized the proponent’s responsibility to maintain the machinery as stated in the Memorandum of Agreement
(MOA) signed between the proponent and DA-CAR. He also explained that although it took time to procure the machinery, these were procured based on the resolutions submitted by the FCAs and the appropriateness in their farm areas.

He then urged them to seek assistance from the Municipal Local Government Unit for the registration of
ownership. In response, farmer recipient Julio Nasilib expressed his gratitude to the agency. “I am very happy and thankful because this tractor can reduce our dependency on labor and will improve the quality of our lives. This will also substitute animal power, especially for carabaos,” he expressed. Also, Marcelo
Ambatali, another farmer recipient, encouraged the other farmers to participate during trainings and other activities being implemented for the farmers.

He thanked the agency for granting their request. Also present during the activity were Provincial Agriculturist Dominga A. Cabatu, Municipal Agriculturist Abraham P. Gaddawan, Mayor’s Representative Mr. Raldon A. Angsofian, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Rodel Bagawi, Asst. APCO Mt. Province David Sumalag, Northern Asia Sales, and Ford Tractor Philippines, Inc.
