2nd batch of stranded Abrenians in Baguio, Benguet brought home

BAGUIO CITY, June 5(PIA) — The provincial government of Abra brought home its second batch of stranded residents in Baguio City and Benguet on June 3.

The Task Unit for Locally Stranded Individuals (TULSI) extracted on Wednesday at
least 24 students, workers and senior citizens who were stranded in the City and Benguet since the start of the Enhanced Community Quarantine as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in mid March.

The provincial government sent a sweeper bus to pick up the LSIs. Last week, at least 13 stranded individuals in Baguio City were also brought home to Abra while at least 17 individuals were also picked up in Metro Manila.

The passengers were subjected to COVID-19 health screening and applied for health certificates and travel permits before they were allowed to board the bus.

Upon arrival in Abra, the LSIs are brought to their respective barangay or municipal isolation units where they will undergo triage and mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Said the provincial government of Abra continues to bring home locally stranded individuals from the different parts of the country to ensure safety of each and every Abrenio during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chrissa Mae Cacho, one of the stranded students, thanked Gov. Maria Jocelyn Bernos and the Abra provincial government for providing them a free ride in going back to their hometowns in Abra after two months of staying in Baguio City during the ECQ. She also thanked Cong. Joseph Santo Nino Bernos for proving cash assistance while on lockdown.

Cacho also expressed gratitude of the barangay officials of Sanitary Camp and the çity government of Baguio for the relief goods they have been giving to the stranded students.

She chose to remain in Baguio during the ECQ to finish the school requirements particularly those that were given online since there is no internet access her hometown in Abra,

Gov. Bernos said the provincial government of Abra continues to bring home LSIs and returning Overseas Filipino Workers and other overseas Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She called on LSIs and ROFs to coordinate with their respective LGUs and the provincial government for them to be given instructions on how they could avail of the free ride back home to Abra.
