Three persons were reported died while 12, 737 families or 44, 483 individuals in 165 barangays and around 17 municipalities were affected by super typhoon Carina landed in the Northern part of Region 1. According to the report by the Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of La Union, the three casualties were an 11 year old boy from Barangay Tammocalao, Bacnotan , another is a 48 years old female from Barangay Urayong Bauang municipality and a 61 year old male from Sitio Daeng Halog East Tubao municipality.
The PDRRMO said that rescue operatives are still searching for the senior citizen’s body as of this writing. Affected families The reports sad that an estimated 12, 637 families or a total of 44, 483 individuals found in 165 barangays in the 17 municipalities in La Union were affected due to typhoon Carina. Of the 12, 637 families, around 220 families or a total of 597 individuals are being served inside the evacuation centers. While 9,785 families or a total 36,575 individuals are being served outside evacuation centers or in their respective houses.
The PDRRMO in their reports said that the affected families are from the municipalities of Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, City of San Fernando, Luna, San Juan and Sudipen (1st district)- Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, Santo Tomas and Tubao (2nd district)- Majority of the mentioned municipalities were affected by flooding. Evacuees from Naguilian and Bagulin are due to landslides.
* Roads and bridges:
Around 34 road sections were affected in the municipalities of Bagulin, Caba, Naguilian, Bauang, and City of San Fernando Seven (7) of this roads are not passable, but after the clearing operations made by the Depaerment of Public Works and Highways and the Province of La Union 27 road are already passable to motorists.
* Power Interruption
On the day that Carina battered the province of La Union around 42 Barangays in the municipalities of Bagulin, Agoo, Santol, Caba, Sudipen, and City of San Fernando experienced power interruption. But on the following day, powere was already restored in the 29 barangays. Aside from this, the PDRRMO also reported that 52 houses were damaged in the municipalities of Balaoan, Luna, San Juan, Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Naguilian and Santo Tomas due to the strong wind and falling trees.
Only the town of Bauang was placed under the state of Calamity due to severe damages. *PGLU Assistance La Union Governor Raffy Ortega-David reportedly distributes 1,000 relief packs in the municipality of Luna, 350 relief packs were distributed in the municipality of Bangar and 300 relief packs were distributed in the municipality of Luna. The governor reportedly in the process of assessment of the total of typhoon Carina damages, including in the agriculture
sector and other livelihood.
