BAGUIO CITY
Seven days and seven photos for three photography enthusiasts kicked off three media-led exhibits at Luisa’s Café last October 3. The Photographic Sojourn by long time photojournalist Dave Leprozo, noted photographer Noli Gabilo and artist-artisan Joey de Castro is the first of a planned three exhibit until Christmas. The exhibit, which runs until October 22, was the product of their seven day sojourn from Baguio to Benguet and Mountain Province that “showcase(d) images of the quiet elegance of the Cordillera landscapes, its warm and hospitable people and a glimpse of the grandiose celestial photography fropm the northern mountaintops.”
Calling themselves as advocates of adventure, travel and tourism over the years, “the exhibition highlights their
photographic journey which will showcase the immense beauty of farmlands, deep tunnels of Lepanto Mines, and the poetically starry nights.” Aside from photography, de Castro is a noted potter who is one of the country’s bests in
the craft. Leprozo has been taking photos since his teen age years and has contributed to local and national papers like the defunct Gold Ore and Cordillera Today, the Manila Standard, among others.
The fisherman from Batanes, Gabilo is one of the country’s most noted photographer known for his night photography, as well as a travel photographer who have travelled from the farthest north to the deepest south to showcase his talent. He is the recipient of the prestigious Gawad Mangpus for Ivatan Excellence in Photographic Arts and the Department of Tourism’s Kalakbay Award. On October 23, Luisa’s joins the celebration of the Indigenous Peoples Month with the Heroes Present Ged Alangui an Indigenous Peoples Month Exhibit.
Alangui is one of the three painters undertaking the Heroes Wall of Fame mural project at the Baguio athletic bowl of athletes and sports people including Islay Erica Bomogao, Jenelyn and Jerry Olsim, among others. On November 23, it will be Cover to Cover by the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club. Led by club president Thom Picana of
Amianan Balita Ngayon, it will feature the works of local photojournalists in a newspaper-magazine type exhibit that feature work that grace the pages from headline up to sports. It will include works of noted photojournalists Andy Zapata, JJ Landingin, Leprozo, Zaldy Comanda, Harley Palangchao, Thom Picaña, Roderick Osis, Mau Victa, among others. Luisa’s Café owned by Roland Wong or Vhong Loy is considered the home of Baguio journalists.
