9 UK Variant Cases Detected In Kalinga

BAGUIO CITY (May 30, 2021) – Another nine UK variant cases of COVID19 were detected in Kalinga prompting the Kalinga Provincial Health
Office to reiterate to the public  to maintain vigilance and strictly compliance to health protocols.
According to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the Center for Health Development (RESU-CHD) Cordillera, the newly identified cases were from the five towns, one each from Rizal, Pasil, Tanudan and Lubuagan.   Four cases meanwhile were detected in Kalinga’s capital, Tabuk City.
The local government units (LGUs) through their Epidemiological Surveillance Units of the five towns and the capital Tabuk City with the variant are conducting continuous monitoring and contact tracing.
Kalinga logged a total of 19 UK variant cases since it got into the country last January 2021.
The PHO warned the residents that most off-the-shelf face coverings are not 100% effective at preventing droplet emission.  The department advised the public that with the new variant spreading more easily and likely infectious at lower concentrations, it’s important to select coverings with materials that are most effective at stopping droplet spread.
The people are reminded that when available, N95 and surgical masks consistently perform the best.
The people are also being reminded to follow physical distancing guidelines among other measures to avoid infection.
