BANGUED, Abra Oct. 18 (PIA) — The provincial government is sponsoring free hospitalization fees and expenses for senior citizens in celebration of the National Elderly Week 2019.
This is through Gov. Joy Bernos’ exclusive health program for the elderlies dubbed as “Yakap ni Gov. Joy kay Lola at Lolo.” This year’s National Elderly Week celebration is anchored on the theme, “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts with Me” which primarily promotes a healthy and stress-free life for the senior citizens, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Decimia Cabang said.
Provincial Health Officer Antonio Valera explained the benefits of senior citizens under the free hospitalization expenses program. As per the findings of the Provincial Hospital, most of the patients were senior citizens so the provincial government came up with a free hospitalization program exclusively for senior citizens.
However, Valera clarified that the main priority of this program are the elderly who do not have a monthly pensions. The provincial LGU will shoulder all the expenses of a senior citizen who would be admitted at the provincial hospital within seven days.
These include hospitalization bill, doctor’s professional fee, laboratory tests, medicines, meals and other necessary services. In order to avail such, senior citizens must secure first their Health Card from the Governor’s Office. The card is to be presented at the Provincial Hospital to avail the free services.
During the orientation program on how to attain a healthy lifestyle to live longer organized by the PSWDO, Provincial Agriculturist Expedito Villarus discussed food necessities and productive activities for seniors. He mentioned the importance of backyard gardening in keeping them active and lively. He also suggested petting, playing game cards, scrabble and other indoor games to divert their attention to prevent stress.
