Abra village chief jailed for keeping grenade

BAGUIO CITY(February 16, 2022) – A village chief is facing criminal charges after a fragmentation grenade was found when policemen raided his house Grenade in Barangay Tikitik, Pilar, Abra Tuesday.
Barangay chairman Renato Domingo Bañez Jr alias Renato Agpalo Bañez Jr, 50, was taken for violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act) and also violating RA 9516 (Codifying the Laws on Illegal/Unlawful Possessions, Manufacture, Dealing in, Acquisition or Disposition of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives of Instruments used in the Manufacture of Firearms, Ammunition or Explosives, and imposing stiffer penalties for certain violations thereof, and other relevant purposes).
Bañez is also an ex-officio Pilar town councilor being the Association of Barangay Chairman president in the town. Abra police were ordered
to search the village chairman’s house by Judge Rusty Naya of the Regional Trial Court in Tayug, Pangasinan.
