“ALBUBO” A CELEBRATION OF PROSPERITY, SHARING, PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE AND REKINDLING OF FAMILY TIES IN THE SPIRIT OF HARMONY AMONG THE “IBUGIAS”

Albubo Festival an annual celebration after a bountiful harvest and a coloful traditional rendition of the Municipality of Buguias 14 barangays showcasing an ensemble of traditional dances, music, games and 5 days of merriment
highlighted by the celebration of Youth Day last March 9, 2024 wherein around 14 elementary and High school dance Troupe students from the barangays of the Municipality of Buguias showcased via a dance and music ensemble cultural,traditions, daily life scenes, agricultural cycle, weddings, sharing, prosperous life, social events clad in their colorful Kankanaey regalia replete with the rendition of traditional musical instruments and dances with a mix of fussion dances by High School Students.

“Ubbo” is a cultural practice where the community help each other in times of need, It offers a unique way of working together for the common good and progress of the community. Culminating events last March 10 was the holding of the Cultural Parade presented by various the Municipality of Buguias 14 barangays and various government, civic and social organizations a festive moment where guest from government and private sector were honored and gave their commendable remarks at the 5th Albubo Festival.

In the early morning of March 10 an “Avang” and “Ewek” was performed where 14 pigs were butchered, blessed and prepared to be shared among the community and visitors representing Buguias’s 14 Barangays. Competitive Ethnic Games were also held after the sumptious lunch followed by the presentation and sharing of a rather large moist and delicious Carrot Cake weighing around 120 kilos with honoured guests Cong. Eric Go Yap, Governor Melchor Diclas,Benguet Board Member Rose Fongwan Kepes, Buguias Mayor Ruben L. Tinda-an and other honored invited guest from neighboring munipalities and government agencies cutting the 6 x 5 foot and around 120 kilos of carrot cake and sharing among the townsfolks and guest.
