‘ALYANSA’ SENATORIAL BETS TO PRIORITIZE ECONOMIC RESILIENCE FOR BAGUIO CITY

The administration-backed Senate slate Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, are envisioning a broader economic base for Baguio to build a resilient local economy. The coalition is composed of former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Senator Pia Cayetano, former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Senator Lito Lapid, former Senator Manny Pacquiao, former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino, ACT-CIS Representative and former Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo, and Deputy Speaker Camille Villar Navotas Representative and Alyansa campaign manager Toby Tiangco said they are pushing for Baguio’s economic diversification to accelerate its development and maintain its sustainability. “We believe in Baguio’s tremendous potential to expand and we will do this by creating economic opportunities that complement tourism,” Tiangco said.

The senatorial slate is eyeing infrastructure improvements, enhanced transportation systems, and more reliable utilities to support business expansion. However, environmental sustainability remains high on Alyansa’s plans for Baguio. The coalition is taking an approach that balances economic progress with preservation of the city’s natural resources. “Baguio should be the country’s standard for sustainable development, where economic progress and a highly protected environment go hand-in-hand. With this, we will support strategies that are informed by the city’s unique ecology,” Tiangco emphasized. The coalition is also keen on maintaining the quality of water resources in the city through initiatives that support their continuous improvement.

Small and medium enterprises also play a role in a more economically resilient Baguio. “To diversify Baguio’s economy, Alyansa will support enhanced assistance for local entrepreneurs and a business environment that appeals to innovation,” Tiangco said. With entrepreneurship as one of Baguios’ greatest assets, Alyansa will also look for ways to support and create conditions favorable to business development,” Tiangco added. Alyansa will, however, continue to strengthen the city’s tourism sector as the coalition is particularly focused on promoting sustainable initiatives. With multiple economic strengths, Baguio can become the model for balanced development in the Philippines.
