Apayao Ready for CARAA 2019 Delegates

APAYAO — The province of Apayao led by Governor Elias Bulut Jr.
is ready to welcome the more than 5000 delegates of the 2019 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet slated on February 27 to March 3, 2019.
Bulut said this is the second time that the province will host the annual sports meet, and this time, they are ready to showcase the rich culture and the various eco-tourism sites of Apayao.
The provincial government did not pursue the grand celebration of the foundation day or the annual Say-am Festival, instead they prioritized the preparation for the CARAA hosting, he said.
Aside from the improved sports facilities that includes the new tartan tracks of the athletic oval at the main playing venue of the Apayao Ecotourism and Sports complex in Payanan, Luna, and the billeting areas for the delegates, the local government units prepared the different eco-tourism sites in the lower municipalities of the province where CARAA delegates and other guests
could visit.
Among the eco-tourism destinations include the underground river of the Lasso cave, the Marag Valley and Duppag rock formations in Luna, the Nagan River dubbed as one of the cleanest rivers in the country which is also home to the Philippine Eagle, the church ruins in Pudtol, and the Bacut Lake in Santa Marcela.
As part of the 24th Apayao Foundation Day celebration, the municipalities launched the different eco-tourism sites in the localities and other activities at their municipal halls which showcase the culture and tradition of Apayao.
Meanwhile, Apayao Police Provincial Office Director PSSupt. Alfredo Dangani assured safety and security of the CARAA delegates and other visitors who would be coming to the province.
Dangani said that more than 800 police officers and other force multipliers will be securing the different billeting areas, playing venues and the different tourism sites mainly at the lower municipalities of Flora, Santa Marcela, Pudtol and Luna.
Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones will be the guest of honor and speaker during the opening ceremonies on February 27.
She is expected to visit several schools and conduct dialogues with the leaders of Apayao and with the DepEd personnel in the province including the indigenous peoples stakeholders in Apayao and in the nearby province of Kalinga.
Bannered by the theme “One Team, One Vision,” the annual sports meet will showcase the athletic prowess of athletes and grassroots development of the different provinces and cities in the
region.
