BAGUIO CITY (October 11, 2024)
An Army Sergeant gunned down his wife, mother-in-law and a driver inside Camp Melchor dela Cruz, the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division headquarters in Gamu, Isabela Thursday afternoon. Investigator Police Staff Sergeant Kennedy C. Gorospe said Sergeant Mark Angelo Ajel, 32, assigned at the 503rd Infantry Brigade in Tabuk City, Kalinga, was with inside with his wife Erlinda, 35; his mother-in-law Lolita Ramos, residents of Barangay Yeban Sur, Benito Soliven, Isabela and driver Rolando Amaba, from Barangay Santa Cruz, also in Benito Soliven town, inside a
van parked inside the camp’s premises after the victims and the Army trooper bought baby milk, when successive gunshots rang out.
Upon hearing the gunfire, Army Sgt. Rommel Narag and Army Staff Sgt. Perfecto Prudencio approached the van and
discovered the suspect holding a 9mm pistol and Erlinda Ajel and Lolita Ramos wounded. Van driver Amaba was declared dead on the spot while Ajel and Ramos were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead-on-arrival. Investigators recovered 6 empty shells and one fired a bullet from a Caliber .9mm pistol. The suspect was already relieved from duty and the firearm used was kept as evidence. Investigators have yet to find out what prompted the shooting.
