Baguio and Benguet’s highland chill has dropped ahead of Christmas, sending residents and tourists taking their early vacation 5 days before Christmas wrapping themselves to get warm. State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Agromet Station at the Benguet State University compoung in La Trinidad recorded the lowest temperature in the Benguet capital early Friday morning at
14.1 degrees Celsius. Though is almost a notch hotter Friday that Thursday’s (December 19, 2024) 13.7 degrees Celsius.
While the PAGASA Benguet Radar Station at Mount Santo Tomas in Tuba, Benguet recorded the lowest temperature
at 12.7 degrees. It was also colder (12.5 degress Celcius) on Thursday (December 19,2024). In Baguio City, the lowest
temperature dip went at 14.4 degrees Celsius, lower than Thursday’s 15.5 degrees Celsius. It is expected to get further
chillier in the highlands as Christmas Day draws near and the bone-tingling highland breeze goes on until March next year. Visitors, even residents, woke up Friday morning with a skin-biting and bone-tingling 10 degrees, yet the lowest temperature recorded this Amihan season.
Last year on February 17 saw a record low temperature at 10 degrees Celcius, though such was even more than 3 degrees hotter than on January 18, 1961, when the highlands experienced the lowest temperature at 6.3 degrees Celcius. In recent years though, PAGASA recorded a chilling temperature in Baguio City at 7 degrees Celsius on January 2019.
