The Baguio Water District will impose a 30 percent rate hike or PhP111 per household starting this month but will be applied on the
residents April bill. In an announcement, the BWD said the imposition of the 30 percent rate hike came after the public consultation last
January. While its imposition is on March, residents will see it reflected on their bill on April. This came after the approval of the Local Water Utilities Administration of its rate hike request. The BWD made the rate adjustments due to three factors – the COVID 19 pandemic,
inflation and the El niño.
Despite the three challenges, the BWD “adopted austerity measures to manage its resources however the present water rates can no longer subsidize the escalating costs of power, fuel, operational and maintenance costs.” These factors led BWD to “adjust its water tariff
commencing March 2025 after the approval of the LWUA to ensure financial viability and continuously improve its operation for the benefit of its growing concessionaires. The BWD eye a three year rate hikes with 30 percent this year, 10 percent for the next two years.
The district will charge PhP481 from the PhP370 minimum consumption of 10 cubic meters for a residential 12A household.
