Beatles, concert for everyone

The University of Baguio music students performed a rare recital concert of Beatles songs, marking the 10th year of the school’s chamber orchestra.

Nelson Polvoriza, a renowned musical director, directed the recital with special participation of the university chorale and rondalla. The concert was held on Monday (March 2) at the Centennial Building.

“We are only the university which offers music degree course in the North. We really worked hard to create sprouts of several graduates, competent teachers and good performers,” Polvoriza said “I know everybody loves and passionate with Beatles,” Polvoriza added .

The concert aims to bring back the classical . Move back to the music band during 1960’s. The concert started wit the meditation of classic Ob-La Di, Ob La Da in English means “life goes on” with alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass and percussion instrument.

A ballad love song Michelle, a hit song by the Beatles in 1967, mesmerized the audience as university music students played the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone.

The song, Till there was you, was one of the enchanting serenade performed by the students. A female quartet, using their hand-made violin played a solid rendition of the timeless song Yesterday.

Graduating students, showed warmest gratitude to their Alma Mater, performed In My Life –playing impeccably with their flute, violin, viola, octavina, and double bass The university chamber orchestra sang ageless songs from Beatles such as I Saw Her Standing There, Eleonor Rigby, Golden Slumbers, A Day In The Life, Imagine, Something, The long and Winding Road, and Beatles Medley.

“I love music, I love listening to music because it change my emotion.When I feel sad i listen to music to make me happy” said Sunhea Kim, a student of music. Enrick Kismod, one of the performer said: “I took up a course in music because it makes me happy. “

“Through music, i could express myself . It is my talent , my passion,”Kismod added. The art of music- it indulges passion and self-expression for any nationality, age and status in life at the same time it influences moods and perspective in life for everyone.
