BENGUET IRRIGATORS SIGN MARKETING AGREEMENT

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

To hasten food security, eight irrigators’ associations (IA) of Benguet represented by their presidents recently signed marketing agreement with the National Irrigation Administration-CAR represented by Regional Manager Benito Espique, Jr. The monumental activity was held at the NIA Farmers Training Center in Brgy. Wangal, here. The NIA will be direct buyers of the IAs’ quality produce such as fruits, vegetable, root crops, and other commodities, a Kadiwa sa NIA initiative, and formalized through a marketing agreement with more IA participants, according to
NIA-CAR release.

Cooperativism Several irrigators associations from the different barangays of Kapangan are set to establish their respective cooperatives. According to NIA-CAR, more than 60 farmers who are members of the 19 irrigators
associations (IAs) recently underwent Pre-Registration Seminar and Cooperative Organization at the Kapangan
Municipal Evacuation Center in Barangay. Paykek. The activity was in coordination with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and the local government unit of Kapangan.

It is line with NIA Administrator ’s goal of promoting cooperative initiatives while sustaining personal identity and
functionality of IAs, and will enable them to be more competitive and be the main part of the whole value chain, from
production to processing to marketing, the release states.
