BAKUN, GAMBANG (April 30, 2020) – They too need the government assistance, they admit, but there are more who need it more than them.
At least thirty-five villagers in interior villages in Barangay Gambang, Bakun, Benguet, all recipients of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) emergency cash assistance voluntarily waived their slots to their neighbors.
There are at least 1, 051 households in Barangay Gambang. At total of 447 households were initially targeted as SAP beneficiaries. The 35 families via their heads did not sign the SAP form and immediately waived their slots prior to the validation.
Yet another remarkable act, the kind-hearted supposed SAP beneficiaries showed the true Filipino’s trait of compassion to a needy neighbor.
“We would like to thank and express our appreciation to those individuals in Barangay Gambang who voluntarily and honestly waived their slots so that other qualified families will be accommodated on the said program,” the Bakun town MDRRMC said in its official Facebook account. Such rare show of “communing with the community”
Shows the unity of the people of Bakun during this time of the crisis, it explained, adding, “this act of kindness shows that we y-Bakun unite as one to survive this kind of pandemic..
While in Baguio City, school service driver – Epifanio Tibalao Jr., also waived the SAP fund he was about to receive. He told government agency representatives present at the distribution SLUSVP barangay that ‘he may not have much in life, but the fund should be given to someone who is much more in need’. “Baka may mga mas nangangailangan pa Ma’am,” he gladly said.
Policemen securing the SAP process witnesses Tibalao Jr.’s kind-heart. Baguio City has a SAP budget of P 248 million for some 45,000 supposed beneficiaries.
