LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – The Benguet State University launched the country’s first online store operated by a state university last Tuesday (January 30) at the BSU open gymnasium to promote and sell local products.
Sheryl I. Fernando, special assistant to the vice president for business affairs, conceptualized the project through the prodding of the university’s president, Dr. Feliciano G. Calora Jr.
The website, www.tatakbsu.com, was initially intended to promote and sell the university’s products but was eventually developed to include other local products to help other entrepreneurs in marketing their products.
As part of their marketing strategy, BSU used digital marketing to market their own services and products, including other local products outside of the university.
BSU invited the local government, Commission on Higher Education, and Department of Trade and Industry to send their representatives to give short talks about the university’s project initiative during the website launching.
Atty. Miller Quintin Jr., administrative officer from office of the Mayor, mentioned that the local government is willing to exchange link with the university. The link of TatakBSU will be provided in La Trinidad’s website.
The TatakBSU has also partnered with GoNegosyo, a business resources site that helps address poverty in the country by engaging Filipinos in entrepreneurship and development.
TatakBSU can be accessed nationwide and it features local deliveries and shipping. It helps tourists who are having a hard time looking for souvenirs and other products before they visit Baguio City or other provinces in Cordillera.
Fernando, who begun conceptualizing the project in 2016, said that they are looking forward to have partnerships with other State University and Colleges (SUCs) to market other local products as well. PAULO GREG BENITEZ, UB INTERN / ABN
