La Trinidad, Benguet (July 21, 2020) – Benguet is eyeing the full operation of its molecular laboratory for Covid-19 testing in August.
Governor Melchor Diclas said when the lab, located within the Benguet General Hospital in La Trinidad, is completed, the RT-PCR and RNA extractor loaned to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) will be retrieved back to its intended use.
Benguet General Hospital received over P5million worth of anti-COVID19 equipment from Benguet Caretaker and ACT-CIS partylist Representative Eric Go Yap including the RT-PCR machine, automated extraction machines and other consumables for the laboratory.
The lawmaker temporarily loaned the RT-PCR and automated machines with consumables to BGHMC to use with a Memorandum of Agreement for the urgent need to speed up the release of swab test results from different parts of Northern Luzon, which resulted in the significant reduction in the period to release results to three days.
Yap also funded the molecular laboratory for Benguet.
There are 51 total confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 12 active cases in Benguet.
Diclas said majority of the Covid-19 cases are front liners, returning overseas Filipino workers and locally stranded individuals.
