The Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory led by Acting Warden JSInsp Joan Bacayan led the closing program of the facility’s celebration of the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) 2024 last 27 October 2024. “A heartfelt thank you to all service providers who contributed their time, expertise, and resources to make this week possible,” JSInsp Bacayan said. Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda was the guest of honor and speaker. In her message, she highlighted the importance of reintegrating Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) into society.
The closing program also featured various cultural presentations by PDL, showcasing their creativity, resilience, and rich cultural heritage. NACOCOW is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 551, series of 1005, declaring every third week of October as National Correctional Consciousness Week. This annual observance is dedicated to raising awareness about the rights, rehabilitation, and reintegration of PDLs, while highlighting the vital role of correctional facilities in fostering safer and more inclusive communities.
