BAGUIO CITY (May 10, 2021) — Cagayan province in the Cagayan Valley region together with Apayao and Benguet provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region have been placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine starting May 10 until May 23.
The Inter-agency Task Force for the Maintenance of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) in its resolution Sunday (May 9, 2021), placed the three provinces under the MECQ for two-weeks taking cue from the recommendation of the Screening and Validation Committee of the task force.
The local government of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan province’s capital, extended its MECQ status only until May 14 amid Cagayan provincial IATF’s recommendation that the status goes all the way until the end of May.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier placed the entire Cagayan province under general community quarantine until May 14.
Tuguegarao City mayor Jefferson Soriano Thursday last week said they are expecting a downtrend of the active cases, a total of 921 cases are active as of Thursday, though he admitted, the Tuguegarao City Health Services Office was expecting more cases still.
Last April, Tuguegarao City had been considered as the Cagayan Valley region’s epicenter of Covid19.
As the month started, Pres. Duterte placed Abra and Ifugao on MECQ only from May 1-14, but indicated that a re-classification could be instituted “as maybe warranted and without prejudice to the declaration of ECQ in critical areas.” All other provinces in CAR are under GCQ until end of this month.
However, the IATF-EID in its resolution numbered 114-C on May 9 again cited that “the risk level classification of the aforementioned provinces shall be without prejudice to their reclassification as may be warranted and the reclassification of localized Enhanced Community Quarantine in critical areas.”
According La Trinidad, Benguet Mayor Romeo Salda, they would be harmonizing localized guidelines on Tuesday during the Provincial IATF conference.
