CASES OF ABUSE AGAINST WOMEN IN THE CITY DROP

Some f 26 cases of abuse against women were recorded in the city from January to February this year, lower than the 38 cases reported during the same period in 2024, according to the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO). Most of the incidents involved Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) with 10 cases. There were also 8 cases of acts of
lasciviousness, five cases of rape, two violations of the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law), and one case of child abuse. Police said the youngest victim was a five- year old, while the oldest was 56.

The youngest suspect was 15 years old, while the oldest was 76. In line with Women’s Month, the BCPO urged victims
of abuse to come forward and seek assistance. “If they know they have been abused and want to file a case, we encourage them to come out and speak up. We can help them with the investigation,” said Police Major (PMAJ) Marcy Morron, Public Information Officer (PIO) of BCPO.
