CDH Reaches out to 7 Elderlies

Caba, La Union – Seven Senior Citizens from Barangay Las-Ud and Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union benefitted from the Caba District Hospital (CDH) Home Visit Community Outreach Program held on September 20, 2019.
The said activity, in line with CDH’s Senior Citizen Program and hospital brand which is focused on care of the elderly, includes blood pressure monitoring, physical assessment, medical check-up with free medicines, distribution of information education materials and gift giving.
During the visit, Nurse Medy A. Maglaya informed the family members the common challenges and health risks of bedridden patients like pressure sores or decubitus ulcers, constipation, stiffness, recurrent urinary tract infection and depression.
She also provided tips for the family members to prevent and manage those risks like routine regular turning and repositioning of their loved ones in bed, encouraging time out of bed, use of bedding that is soft and provision of passive range of motion exercise.
Nurse Chona B. Gachallan instructed the elderlies to do gentle sitting exercises to improve mobility and to avoid joint and muscle pain caused by prolonged lying or immobilization.
Other activities were information education campaign tackling nutrition plan for elderlies and introduction to the hospital’s smoking cessation program.
Home Visit Community Outreach Program is a monthly activity of CDH to reach out to the elderlies as a way of giving back to the community, true to CDH’s hospital brand “Service with Compassion” and to achieve the Provincial Government of La Union’s vision of a Happy La Union and Healthy La Union by 2022.
