City council approves Burnham’s master redevelopment plan

During the Regular Session on October 14, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing approval of the Master Redevelopment Plan for the Burnham Park submitted by the Technical Working Group.
The said Master Redevelopment Plan was granted approval subject to conditions. First, a public hearing or consultation shall be conducted to gather inputs from constituents regarding the plan. Also, the plan is subject to revision and to be resubmitted to the City Council for confirmation.
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) will be furnished with a copy of the resolution for information and appropriate action.
“[In the past years], most of the development/rehabilitation projects for the park were implemented in a piece-meal or segmented basis,” the resolution reads. Councilor Maria Mylen Victoria G. Yaranon, chairperson of the Committee on Public Works and a Technical Working Group member, said that a master redevelopment plan will address the lack of cohesion in the over-all design of the park.
Through Executive Order 049 series of 2019 and pursuant to Resolution 192-2019, a technical working group was created to prepare a master development plan for Burnham Park Reservation.
The Master Redevelopment Plan created by the Technical Working Group was presented during the Executive Legislative Meeting held on September 30. “The Master Redevelopment Plan that was presented is feasible and offers a long-term solution to address the current state of the Burnham Park.” Yaranon said.
The City Council earlier passed a resolution approving the plans for the redevelopment of the Burnham Park funded by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) in the amount of P20, 000, 000.00.
