CORDILLERA IRRIGATION PROJECTS REACH NEW HEIGHTS

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

Some 235 irrigation projects programmed for CY 2024 were completed, according to the National Irrigation Administration– Cordillera Administrative Region (NIA-CAR). The completed projects developed some 709.70 hectares of new service areas, rehabilitated some 2,637.13 hectares old areas for a total of 3,346.83 hectares, marking a substantial contribution to the region’s agricultural capacity. The agency attributes these accomplishments to the collaborative efforts of local government units, stakeholders, and the communities
themselves, all working together to enhance agricultural productivity.

A total of 20,966 farmers benefitted from the improved irrigation facilities and generated some 18,494 jobs across the region, providing
valuable livelihood opportunities for local residents. This achievement represents a major boost for local farming communities and
underscores NIA-CAR’s commitment to supporting agricultural productivity. In summary per province, Mountain Province topped the
list of completed with 62 followed by Benguet 52, Ifugao h40, Kalinga 35, Abra 24, and Apayao 22.

In 2024, the agency has allocation amounting to P3.518, billion, and P3.450 billion has already been obligated. NIA-CAR remains focused
on maximizing the impact of its irrigation projects, aiming to further expand serviced areas and increase the number of benefiting farmers in the months ahead. With these achievements, the Cordillera Administrative Region is poised to strengthen its position as a vital contributor to the country’s food security and rural development goals.
